Sarah & Mathew

[intro]Sarah and Mathew recently got married. We loved their engagement session so much that we wanted to feature it! They shared their love story with us, want to hear about it?[/intro]

How did you guys meet?

We met at a lake house over fourth of July weekend, I (Sarah) was actually up at the house doing work for a family we both knew. We rarely talked the first night. Around 1 am I was still there mopping up fiberglass, when he came inside I moved on to putting together an IKEA chair. There were two chairs to put together and he tried helping by beginning to put together the second one, I had to help him because he couldn’t figure it out. After I left that night I hadn’t put much thought into him. But was then invited by the family back to the lake house for fourth of July day. We got to know each other a lot that weekend because there were no cell phones and no television.

First thoughts about one another after you met?

I (Sarah) thought he was old and way out of my league, I was actually considering setting him up with my sister when she got home from her mission in Taiwan (I’m glad he didn’t waste any time asking me out). He thought I (Sarah) was super goal driven like don’t get in this girls way cause she will run you over.

Who said “I love you” first?

I (Sarah) did. But when we talked about it we both thought it at the same time earlier that day when we were driving. Mat says he was freaked out by the thought when he thought “I love her” and I (Sarah) was way too scared to say it in the car because I thought it was too soon. But later that day I (Sarah) came out and admitted I loved him.

Tell us about your first date:

We actually talked about this one after we started officially dating and decided our first date was the time the feelings all started. It was the weekend at the lake house and it was Saturday morning and I (Sarah) had just gotten back from paddle boating with his mom and I wanted to go kayaking. After about 15 minutes of us shooting off fireworks in broad daylight Mat’s mom convinced him to go kayaking with me. I wanted to go kayaking but did not want to go alone, his mom being the wise woman she is decided to just send the two of us. We kayaked for about 2.5 hours and talked about everything, we talked about what Mat was planning on doing after he graduated college, we talked about the things I wanted to do, we both talked about our families and our lives in general. We didn’t know it then but that’s where it all began.

Tell us about your first kiss:

We were watching The Hobbit in my (Sarah’s) family room and I was falling asleep on his shoulder. Partway through the movie he noticed I was sleeping and he moved a little bit to get comfortable, I’m a light sleeper so I woke up and started watching the movie again. I knew it was coming because every once in awhile I would catch him glancing at me, finally he leaned down and kissed me. He still has no clue what happens in that movie.

How did you know he/she was *the one? *

*He knew because he couldn’t think of anyone else after we met, I was always on his mind and he said “when something happened the first person I wanted to tell was her”. I knew because I couldn’t get him off my mind, after we were apart for one day I just wanted to be around him again.*

How did he propose?

Mat goes to college in Muncie, IN and I (Sarah) am out here at BYU for the semester. (Yes its really rough being apart.) Mat flew out over his fall break and on Friday we had been planning a surprise birthday dinner for his mom. Mat’s sister and sister in law were getting all dressed up and doing their hair for this dinner and I was just sitting there waiting, they kept trying to get me to do something with my hair and put on makeup, eventually I caved once his mom started getting ready. We got in the car and they said the reservations weren’t till later so I was really confused as to why we were all rushing. His mom suggested we go for a walk in the canyon because the leaves were all changing and it was a beautiful fall day. We were walking around and Mat’s sister was taking pictures of all of us. We got to this bridge and everyone was kind of doing their own thing and Mat turned to me and told me how much he loved me and how excited he was to spend forever with me, he got down on one knee and said “Will you do me the honor of marrying me, Sarah DeAnn Wadsworth?”. I of course said yes! We were both shaking and so excited, I was nervous when I knew it was happening but Mat was nervous all day. Instead of going to the Italian restaurant I thought we had reservations at we went to Texas Roadhouse because Mat knows how much I love steak and mashed potatoes. That’s the way to win over my heart, ha!
