Makaila & Andrew: Brigham City Temple Wedding
[intro]Makaila and Andrew are so funny! We had the best time getting to know them and their family/friends on their wedding day. You’re going to want to read this post and hear all about how they met and fell in love.[/intro]
How did you guys meet?
We met in Hawaii in Stake/Church choir, and I had actually been attending for a few weeks when Andrew started coming. This was around mid October. Andrew was lost, trying to find the choir rehearsal, and the women were just moving rooms to reconnect with the men in the choir, since we had been rehearsing separately for a bit. When Andrew saw me, lingering in the back of the group of women, he stared at me for a looooong time, and then approached me asking if I knew anything about a Stake Choir, and then introduced himself. We then walked to the choir room together and he sat in front of me a couple seats, and continued to turn around and stare at me, particularly when I laughed. We would look at each other like we were best friends that were sharing an inside joke, even though we’d never met before that day. Choir was the only time we saw each other for the next few weeks, until choir ended and we lost touch until February.
First thoughts about one another after you met?
Mine: Well he stared at me in choir haha so I was a bit taken off guard, but I thought he was cute, and he seemed like someone I wanted to get to know better. I felt like I knew him from somewhere, like I had known him before, which is something I hadn’t felt with anyone before this time.
His: I saw her and just stared because of how pretty she was. i felt a sort of different feeling that resembled the feeling of familiarity and i wanted to find out more about this girl
Who said “I love you” first?
(Haha this is a funny story) I said I love you first, but it just kind of came out, and I didn’t really know if I loved him. A few days following I told him I “really really liked him”, because I figured I should take a step back, and then he goes, “I love you too”. Haha! Turns out he misheard what I said, but it worked out, since we are obviously married now.
Tell us about your first date:
Our first date was a double date with Andrew’s best friend Andrew. I had actually wanted to hang out with Andrew and get to know him better, but I had kind of given up on starting anything with Andrew since I knew he was leaving in the next few weeks, and apparently he felt the same. He didn’t want to date because he had such a short time left on Hawaii that he felt it was wrong to date just for a few weeks, seeing as it would be more of a “hook up” than actually dating. But thanks to some convincing of some great friends I decided I should go for it, and as it turned out, his friends had convinced him to go for it too! So when I suggested that we do something, he promptly asked me out to dinner and told me he would pick me up at 6! I was pleasantly surprised! We went to dinner at a elderly missionary couples home, and they made us dinner. It was super sweet! Following dinner and a great discussion (you know how elders like to chat 😉 we headed back to Andrew’s and watched Hot Rod, one of his favorites. Following the movie Andrew walked me home and then hugged me goodnight. (As we later found out, Andrew (the best friend) and his date had watched our “first awkward door encounter” as they call it, since they had followed us in their car haha!)

Tell us about your first kiss:
Our first kiss was actually on April Fool’s day! I had pranked him, and this apparently made me super cool, so he asked me to hang out that night. We ended up talking for a good 4 hours, and then that eventually led to our first kiss, which took place at his apartment. Lesson to the ladies out there… prank him and he will kiss you!
How did you know he/she was the one?
Andrew: I was with my buddy mike and was really considering my relationship with makaila and trying to figure out if this was a relationship that i saw going somewhere. my buddy had me think of 5 things that i would change about her and 5 things that i loved about her. i quickly found that i had really nothing i wanted to change about her and as i was thinking about what i love about her i just had the thought “i need to marry this girl.” then the seed was planted and i worked toward that goal until we had ‘sealed’ the deal
Makaila: I actually can’t recall an aha moment where I just knew he was the one for me. It just happened over time. I started to realize that he had everything I had ever wanted in a husband, and began accepting the many facets that make up Andrew, falling more in love little by little, and it just dawned on me that I wanted to spend forever with him. The spiritual side of it took a little longer, but that is a different story altogether.
How did he propose?
It was the day after my birthday, and we had been planning a sunday picnic for quite a while. However, it was super rainy that morning so I told him that maybe we should go on a picnic another day. He quickly pushed that thought out of my head and told me there were plenty of pavillions, at the park we were going to, and we could always have a picnic under one of those. He also made sure to message me that morning to make sure I was wearing his favorite dress of mine, my gray one. Lucky for him I didn’t think much of it. So we packed our picnic basket together and then headed up Provo Canyon. After we arrived at the park we got out with and began walking with the umbrella covering our heads, as it was still raining. We walked until we came to this canopy that had been set up, and Andrew said, “Well this spot looks good”. I assumed he was being sarcastic until he stared to set our things down and get situated. I said exactly what I was thinking, “We can’t just sit here! This is someone else’s stuff!” “No, it’s ours,” was his reply. I then looked more closely at the set up and saw there was a nice blanket on the ground, covered in white rose petals. I sat down and was still in shock trying to process it all. Andrew had been with me all morning, how had he set this up!? I just shook my head in disbelief and said, “You’ve got to stop surprising me!” since as I mentioned, the day before being my birthday had been packed with surprises! His reply was “Well, I have one more surprise for you…” so I turned around and saw him open up the picnic basket and there was a ring box sitting on top. And well… the rest is history. It was a very special experience for both of us, and we grew a lot as a couple from the whole experience. I wish I could tell you everything he said to me when he proposed, but I was in so much shock that I can hardly remember his sweet speech that I’m sure he’d planned out in his head a million times over. Regardless, it was a very moving experience for the two of us, something we hope to never forget.
