Best of Utah Wedding Vendors: DC Tuxedos
[intro]Utah has so many amazing wedding vendors! Each Wednesday we feature one. This week we interviewed DC Tuxedos. We’re so excited for you read all about their services and the tips they have to offer.[/intro]Tell us a little about your business.
DC Tuxedos has been in business for almost 25 years. Like our bridal shop, we purchased the business from the original owner in 2013.
How far in advance should a groom start shopping for a suit and when should he order it by?
Grooms should look to reserve their suit about a month before their wear date. I would suggest looking beforehand so you know all your style options. Have a good idea of what colors you want to use when you come in.
What is the starting price of your suits?
We have tuxedo rentals that start at $60 for a basic style. The newer, slimmer fitting tuxedos run from $100-$140. We sell suits for around $200.

What’s the most important thing to remember when selecting mens apparel?
We always tell grooms that there are only two people coming to see him on the wedding day, his bride and his mother. As long as he’s comfortable and they’re happy everyone will look good.
What are the latest trends you’ve seen for suits and mens accessories ?
Slim fitting suits are very trendy. While guys can look really good in a slim-fitting suit, keep in mind that it’s not for everyone’s body type. Menswear is also getting more casual. Grey, navy and tan suits are very popular right now.
Do you have on-premise alterations with a seamstresses, or do you have recommendations on where to go?
We do all our own alterations on our rentals so we can get a nice fit for everyone. We can do hemlines and cuffs but for other custom alterations we recommend another alteration shop.
What’s the best way to take care of a suit after the wedding?
Hand if off to someone else! If you’ve rented a suit have someone else return it for you so you don’t have to stress about late fees during your honeymoon. If you’ve purchased a suit have someone drop it off at your dry cleaners so it’s ready when you get back.
Any other tips you’d like to share with our readers?
Trim your budget for your groomsmen and not your groom. It doesn’t make sense to have your groom in a suit that he wears to church every week. If the bride has a beautiful new dress the groom should have something new too. He needs to feel like he’s going to his wedding just as much as she does. Make sure your groom stands out too. In a picture of all the men at the wedding you need to be able to tell which one is the groom. Put him in a different color vest and tie or a different suit altogether.
