Best of Utah Wedding Vendors: Rue De Lis Desserts
[intro]Utah has so many wonderful wedding vendors. Each Wednesday we try to feature one of them. Today we have one of the most talented bakeries in Utah, Rue De Lis Desserts! They agreed to share their best tips and advice with our wedding couples. Check out what they had to say:[/intro]
- Tell us a little about your business. I started my business in 2013 after working at many bakeries in Utah. I was ready to be creative in my own way and it has been a blast! The business is based out of my home in draper. I do wedding cakes, birthday cakes, corporate events and any and all desserts!
- How far in advance should a bride start working with a baker? I would say between 6-3 months before the wedding is great! But I can typically work with brides on short notice.
- When should she order her wedding cake by? I’ve worked with brides even 2 weeks before the wedding, but for her sake I would get it out of the way as soon as possible so you don’t have to stress about it!
- What is the starting price of your wedding cakes? $2.50 per serving.
- What’s the most important thing to remember when selecting a cake? Its about showing your personality! Make sure it is a statement about you guys as a couple- whether that be traditional, modern, or completely out of the box!

- What are the latest trends you’ve seen for wedding cakes and desserts? Multiple wedding cakes at weddings, and dessert bars. I personally love this because dessert is becoming a big part of weddings and as someone who also loves to eat desserts, this will never be a bad thing!
- Do you customize wedding cakes? Of course!
- Do couples still freeze the top tier of their cake to eat on their anniversary? What another fun option be that they could do for a tradition instead? Many couples still do. We saved ours and it was preeeetty unappetizing when we took it out a year later! Some couples still love to do this tradition, which is great- but I think the best idea is to order a cake on your first anniversary that is the same flavor or look as your cake was. Might as well enjoy a fresh cake, m’iright?
- What’s your favorite type of wedding cake/dessert lately and why? I LOVE the metallic gold and silver leaf covered cake tiers. They look like magic!
- Any other tips you’d like to share with our brides? Don’t stress! In the end some things will inevitably go wrong and that is perfectly fine. This will end up being the time of your life if you enjoy it in a carefree way. Come on, what could be better than marrying the love of your life, going on a honeymoon and opening a buttload of presents afterward? Nothing!
