How To Choose a Photographer I Utah Wedding Photographer
[intro]Sometimes I get asked random questions by people about photography. Take this past week at my physical therapy session. My therapist and I were having some casual conversation during my exercises. (You know that I herniated a disc a few months ago, right? Oh, I’m feeling MUCH better. Thanks for asking! Back to the convo with my therapist.)[/intro]
Therapist: So, what do you do?
Me: I’m own a co-photography business, and I’m a mom (which is way harder than being a photographer.)
Therapist: Oh really? That’s cool. What’s your website? (I give him our site, and then he gets on the computer next to us and checks it out.) Wow, you’re really good! My family has our pictures taken by ____________. (and he pulls up her site.) How are her prices?
This wasn’t my first run in with people asking about how much photography “should” cost. I get it. No one wants to be swindled. Prices can vary in the photography industry for a lot of different reasons, but maybe price shouldn’t be the only thing you want to look at when you consider booking with a photographer.
Other things to take a look at when booking with a photographer:
- Do you love their work and are they consistent in what they produce?
- Do they know how to make you feel at ease and look awesome in front of the camera? (Can they pose and direct you easily?)
- Are they experts in their field?
- Do they know how to deal with different light? (natural light photographers. . . Just because someone know how to shoot well outdoors, doesn’t always mean they know how to shoot indoor or in low light.)
- Do you click with them?
- Do they offer products that you love?
- Do they offer additional help and support? choosing locations, props, outfits. . .
- Will they help you through the process of selecting images?
- Do they have payment options?
- Are they a legit licensed business? Do they have a contract, insurance, pay taxes. . . You may not think this kind of stuff matters, but it does. Those things protect both parties.
- Will they get you your images and products in a timely fashion?
- Do you trust them?
There’s a photographer out there for you! Someone who’s a perfect fit for what you’re looking for. You don’t have to settle for an incomplete service or mediocre skills. Just think about what you really want and invest in it. What do you think? Share with us what you want in a photographer!
