Katie & Jonathan: Engaged
[intro]We feel so luck to get to work with this cute couple. They are SO in love! Being able to hear their story was such a joy, here it is for you to enjoy as well.[/intro]
How did you guys meet?
Katie: Jonathan was my home teacher for one visit. I had just gotten home from a TERRIBLE date, and as I walked into my apartment building I saw him and his companion waiting in the lobby because they were early for home teaching. I invited them up and a group of us talked for an hour or so before they left. I didn’t really think much about it.
Jonathan: I was her home teacher for one month. It was honestly the longest home teaching appointment that I’ve ever heard of in my life. I think my companion and I were there talking to them for over an hour. The funniest part is that we were talking about how to get other guys/girls to like you. I had no idea that I was sitting in a room giving advice on how to pick up guys to my future wife.
First thoughts about one another after you met?
Katie: I did NOT like him. When we met, I was in a really bad mood. He goes “Hi, I’m Jonathan.” I said, “Nice to meet you John.” and (I’m sure he said this very kindly knowing him now, but at the time I thought he was being rude) he goes “It’s actually Jonathan.” In my head I thought he was the biggest jerk, but I think it was just because I was mad about my terrible date.
Jonathan: I thought Katie was pretty cool and she was obviously super easy to talk to since we stayed for so long during that home teaching visit. I was actually super bummed when I saw that Katie wasn’t on my home teaching route that I got the following month. Everything worked out okay though.
Who said “I love you” first?
Katie: Technically I did, but Jonathan hinted at it a lot. He was waiting to say it until I felt comfortable, and I knew he loved me long before he said “I love you” because of how he treated me.
Jonathan: Well… I told Katie that “I was falling in love with her” and that kind of freaked her out when I said it so I waited until she told me that she loved me to tell her. I just wanted her to be more comfortable.

Tell us about your first date:
Katie: We were supposed to go on a double date, but at the last minute the other couple canceled. We went mini golfing! And we made bets on who would win or lose. Whoever lost bought ice cream. He learned that I’m a massive cheater, although I honestly did get one hole-in-one. I lost though, so I bought ice cream. We watched a movie in this massive field, and I kept hinting that my hands were cold so he would hold them, but all he did was try to warm them up and see if I was comfortable…. he was so sweet, but so, so oblivious.
Jonathan: We were supposed to go on a double date with one of my mission companions and another girl from Katie’s and my ward but they bailed on us last minute so I was pretty nervous not going to lie. Anyway we went mini golfing at the lamest mini golf course that I’ve probably ever been to, but it was still fun, like I said I’ve never had problems talking to Katie so at least for me it wasn’t awkward. Katie may be one of the biggest cheaters though. After that we went and played pool at the WILK while we brainstormed something else to do. We ended up going out in a big field to watch Enders Game and Katie kept trying to get me to hold her hand by saying things like her hands were cold and stuff like that so of course I thought that since my hands were freezing too it wouldn’t do much good to warm up her hands so I tried to warm up my hands first so that I could warm up hers too. I’m just a little oblivious.
Tell us about your first kiss:
Katie: I kissed him first… Jonathan claims he was going to kiss me, but when he dropped me off at my door I just leaned up, pecked him on the lips, said “FINALLY” then ran into my apartment without saying goodnight. I woke up my roommates to tell them about it ha ha.
Jonathan: I was going to kiss her the night before but I got scared, so I had decided that I would kiss Katie no matter what the next night I saw her. I was dropping her off at her door and was gathering the courage to kiss her when she jumped up and kissed me. She said “FINALLY!” and then went inside her apartment. I stood there for a couple minutes after she left just thinking “wait what just happened?”
How did you know he/she was the one?
Katie: One time when we were hanging out, 4 different girls texted him, asking if he would walk to campus and pick them up and then walk them home in the dark. He didn’t complain once, and I saw how many girls trusted (and had crushes) on him. I started learning then that Jonathan is the best person I will ever meet.
Jonathan: I think that the biggest thing for me was there were never any red flags telling me that she was wrong for me. She is literally everything that I could’ve ever wanted and more. I’m super lucky to have her. Everything has worked out perfectly and its pretty crazy to stop and look at everything that happened in order for us to met.
