Nellie & Bobby: Married!
[intro]Throw back Thursday to this incredible couple! We LOVED Nellie and Bobby and instantly felt like we’d known them and their hilarious family/friends fro years. We asked them to share a little about their love story with our readers, and here’s what they had to say:[/intro]
How did you meet?
We met during a summer in Chicago. Bobby had just moved to Chicago for his first job after college. I returned to Chicago to work for the summer on between my first and second year of grad school. Bobby went to college with a friend my friend from grade school. The first time we ever laid eyes on each other was a quick and just involved a hand shake at a friends apartment. I recall feeling sweaty and gross after a night at an outdoor concert, and bobby ha hair down to his shoulders after spending the past few weeks on a cross country road trip. The first time we really hung out was at a happy hour, I think I impressed him with my quarters skills.
First thoughts about one another after you met?
I thought he was really nice and well, let’s be honest pretty darn skinny. I noticed an immediate ease in how I felt talking to him which was my first clue there was a rightness between us. He thought I was beautiful.

Who said “I love you” first?
Bobby. I tried to stop him, but secretly loved that he said it first.
Tell us about your first date:
We went to a blues club in Chicago called Kingston mines. It was a great date, Listened to music and danced a little. The afternoon before I had dragged my three nieces, who I was babysitting that day, to an urban outfitters downtown to find the perfect outfit (which turns out was just a simple grey tank top and a funky bag). They won’t let me live that part down.
Tell us about your first kiss:
We were hanging out at Bobby’s apartment, I remember feeling like I was waiting for him forever to make the first move.
How did you know he/she was the one?
Pretty quickly. We only had about a month together before I moved back to Boston to finish grad school, but we spent nearly everyday with each other. We left it sort of up in the air because we didn’t know how long distance would work out. When I got the first phone call from him once back on Boston, a huge smile crossed my face. Typically, if I wasn’t interested in a guy I would dread a phone call like that and likely let it go to voicemail. I was thrilled to talk to bobby and could feel that smile coming through from him as well.
How did he propose?
We had a nice dinner at home then he proposed. Actually, I tried to avoid the proposal he planned (without knowing) at all costs. I made my own dinner and went to a yoga class coming home quite late. He was patient and I finally went along with his plan.
What are the top things you love about each other?
I love Bobby’s eternal optimism, sense of adventure and spontaneity, and enthusiasm for life. He loves my patience and kindness, and my compassion for others.
